Megan Hendrix categorizes her style as “full body expressionism.” Forgoing brushes and other conventional tools, she utilizes her body, breath, and sound to create strokes over the canvas. The paint simply serves to capture and bring visibility to an emotion, a mood, a moment. It is storytelling through the universal language of information and wisdom within the body. She works from intuition and emotion, to appeal more to the soul than the eye.

Megan’s career has evolved around her dedicated interest in how humans express and communicate visually as well as the sensational interplay of how things move and function with the body as an extension of self. She received a B.S. in apparel design & production from Oklahoma State University and named American Apparel Association Student of the Year. Megan was selected as part of an exclusive, government classified team to design, construct and test QuadGuard Body armor which is now standard issue protective gear worn by U.S. armed forces. In New York City, she worked in R&D for Victoria’s Secret Design Studio. In Houston, she transitioned to the role of Producer, creative directing and managing the visual content for a major outdoor retailer.

In her formative years as a dancer, Megan found the safest way to connect and communicate was without words through movement.Yet, the experiences of an auto-immune diagnosis, chronic pain and sexual assault resulted in a loss of agency and power. Her body became a place of distrust, betrayal and disassociation. “There was complex trauma held in the body that I did not have words or a linear timeline for.” Her somatic method of painting became the source of her healing and transformation.

Compelled to share this powerful experience, Megan started The Heart Expression, leading groups and individuals through her sensory workshops integrating mindfulness, music and movement through paint. The Heart Expression is for all bodies to liberate and align with their truest selves. Megan believes that when we activate from an embodied, felt sense of deep personal power, we have a greater capacity for compassion, vitality through connection and to positively affect change on a collective level.
